Burtons Butchers was established by Thomas William Burton in 1953. Thomas had been a Lancaster pilot during World War Two and when he finished service, he established a butchers in his local town of Hunstanton. His son, Brian Burton, took over the business and Burtons Butchers soon grew. In 1984 the business moved to the centre of bustling Saffron Walden.
Over the past 68 years we have developed a strong reputation for offering the best quality meats. We currently serve our retail customers from the shop in Saffron Walden, and our catering customers from our large factory in Shire Hill.
We are careful to source the best quality meat available, reared by local British farmers wherever possible. You will also find something a bit different here at Burtons. We are known locally for our delicious sausages which are carefully created by our team and the selection frequently changes. We also sell local venison, seasonal game, Suffolk lamb, Free Range Special Reserve chicken, and a touch of the international with our 30 day dry aged beef from our Himalayan Salt chamber.

Our current Managing Director, Andrew Burton has been working in the trade for 40 years and is a liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Butchers.
Andrew has a passion for ensuring that we only serve the best possible products to our customers, and that we serve them with expert advice and a smile. The company will remain within the Burton family as Tom Burton, Andrew’s son, joined the company in March 2020 and is now running the business alongside his father.
